Why the Partnership is The Best Value
It takes more than just large capital IT purchases to keep your company going. In many cases, the IT purchasing person on staff ends up being a non-technical role who issued to buying true commodity products. That really works well on items that are true commodity, but with computer and IT equipment, the process can actually cost you money.
The Fallacy of the lowest bidder
In true commodity buying, as in the case of raw materials, the specifications are controlled, and the deliverable from each vendor is exact. At this point, your value proposition is purely price.
In technology, this is not the case. In technology, the specifications tend to be a moving target. In a pure low bidder scenario this leads to landing the best price for the given part number, but NOT the best price for the required solution. In many cases the part number may have changed at the manufacture because of an upgrade in the spec, but the price may have been reduced. The end result is buying the lowest price for the part, but not the GREATEST VALUE for their company.
